Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers. Both professions she has herself been pursuing. As a young girl the actress was first seen in her debut film Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 she had her role as the main character in Cristina Comencini's first film, Zoo (1988), as well as being part of the cast of The Church (1989), directed by Michele Soavi. Close Friends, written and directed Michele Placido in 1992, was the point where Asia's acting career started off. From playing young girls, she shifted to perform more challenging and mature roles.
